Chronic condition of overgrowth of malassezia furfur (fungus) that is normally a commensal organism

Eczematous type lesions on scalp (dandruff), periorbital, auricular and nasolabial folds
Can cause otitis externa and blepharitis
What conditions are associated with seborrhoeic dermatitis in adults?
HIV
Parkinsons Disease
What is the management of seborrheoic dermatitis?
Hair
1) OTC zinc pyrithione (head and shoulders) or tar (neutrogena T/Gel)
2) topical ketoconazole
3) topical corticosteroids short term or selenium sulphide
Face and Body
1) Topical ketoconazole
2) short term corticosteroid use
Recurrence is very common
What are the symptoms of seborrhoeic dermatitis in children?
Cradle Cap=most common presentation
Face, nappy area and limb flexures can also be affected
What is the management of seborrhoeic dermatits in children?
1? baby oil and shampoo
2) Short term mild corticosteroid e.g. hydrocortisone
Normally resolves by 8 months

What is Dermatitis Herpetiformis?
An autoimmune blistering skin condition associated with coeliac disease
Due to IgA deposition in the skin
