papillary and reticular layers
papillary layer
smaller, superficial region of the dermis deep to the epidermis
dermal papillae (bumps)
increasing surface area between epidermis and dermis
reticular layer
most of the dermis, deeper region that forms the majority of the dermis
vasoconstriction
smaller blood vessels, want to keep heat, keeps blood flow deep
vasodilation
larger blood vessels, causes blood to go closer to skin, tries to get rid of heat to cool body down
