Diffusion Flashcards

(4 cards)

1
Q

What is diffusion?

A

Diffusion is the movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of lower concentration
Diffusion happens when particles can move around each other - you can’t have diffusion of a solid.

Q

What 5 factors might affect the rate of diffusion?

A

Amount of particles already in the container
Amount of particles you put in the container
Temperature (heat energy affects the speed of the particles)
The state of matter
The size of the particles

Q

How does a higher temperature affect diffusion?

A

The thermal energy makes the particles move faster and collide with each other more often. This mean diffusion happens more rapidly
