vestibular neuronitis
acute unilateral peripheral vestibulopathy
Sx: vertigo, nausea, vomiting, unilateral nystagmus
etiology: possible brainstem or stroke from AICA, brainstem, cerebellar
labyrinthine concussion
head injury sometimes with hearing loss and tinnitus
meniere disease
vertigo, nausea, vomiting with progressive hearing loss, tinnitus, sensation of fullness or pressure in ear
perilymph fistula
disruption of lining of endolymph system, pop leading to increase in middle ear pressure leads to vertigo
BPPV
vertigo from changes in position
- lasts seconds to minutes, usually when lying in bed
Dx: dix-hallpike test leading to vertical and torsional nystagmus
