Stage 1 (Helicase)
Double helix untwists because of the helicase enzyme
Stage 2
H bonds
DNA strands separate because hydrogen bonds have broken between bases
Stage 3
Template
Both strands are a Template (things being copied)
Stage 4
Complementary
Nucleotides join onto the exposed bases forming complementary pairs (A&T and C&G) joined by hydrogen bonds
Stage 5
Phosphodiester
DNA polymerase then joins Nucleotides together with Phosphodiester bonds, forming the sugar phosphate backbone.
Stage 6
Semi conservative
This is semi conservative replication because each of the DNA molecules consist of 1 old strand and 1 new strand
