Q

what is the ICF model

A

a holisitic framework for understanding + describing a person’s functioning + disability, rather than focusing on ONLY the diagnosis

Q

ICF- example of body structure/function

A

BODY FUNCTION-
-mental functions; sensory + pain perception + interpretation; ability to produce voice + intelligent speech, use language
-neuro-musculoskeletal functions; pain, sensory, weakness, muscle endurance, limited ROM, muscle length, balance, timing of muscles/activation, posture
-functions of the skin + related structures; protects internal structures, stretches easily across internal structures (mobile)
-functions of cardiovascular, respiratory, hematological, immunological, digestive, metabolic, endocrine, genitourinary, + reproductive systems; aerobic capacity, circulation, cardiopulmonary endurance

BODY STRUCTURES-
-structures of nervous system
-eye, ear, related structures; structures of voice/speech
-structures of cardiovascular, respiratory, immunological, digestive, metabolic, endocrine, genitourinary, reproductive systems
-structures related to movement; muscle, tendon; skin-related structures

Q

ICF- example of activities (limitations)

A

ACTIVITIES ARE TASKS THAT EVERYONE DOES
-self care- hygiene teeth + skin, groom, toilet, dress (some things can be identified as participation)
-talk, communicate
-bed mobility- roll, get in/out of bed, sit, stand, walk, move around (crawl, squat, lean, push, pull, bend, stoop, turn, twist)
-reach, grasp, lift, lower, carry, throw, catch
-walk, ascend/descend steps, curbs, kick, swing, hop, jump

Q

ICF- which is a negative/positive term for environmental factors
-facilitators (fixed or modifiable)
-barriers (fixed or modifiable)

A

-facilitators (fixed or modifiable) = positive
-barriers (fixed or modifiable) = negative

Q

ICF- example of participation (restrictions)

A

PARTICIPATION IS USUALLY SPECIFIC TO INDIVIDUAL + THEIR ROLE IN LIFE
-domestic life- manage home indoor (cook, clean, laundry) + outdoor (lawn care, shovel snow)
-mobility in the community (walk outside, stores, crosswalks, run, hop, drive)
-interpersonal interactions + relationships + occupational tasks (compare construction worker to daycare worker)
-school-related tasks
-recreational + leisure activities
-caring for dependents (children, ill, elderly)
-community responsibilities + service
-self-care
-communication

Q

ICF- examples of environmental factors

A

EXTERNAL TO PATIENT
-products/technology
-natural environment, human made changes to environment, accessibility
-attitudes (ex: toward injury, evternal factors that are effected)
-support + relationships
-services, systems, + policies

-lifestyle
-upbringing
-education
-food preferences
-fitness
-habits
-coping styles

Q

EXAMPLE OF ICF MODEL
(flip card)

A

-health condition- biceps tendinopathy
-body structure/function- decreased strength, pain
-activities- can’t throw
-participation- can’t play baseball
-environmental factors- practice schedule, school
-personal factors- motivated, previous health was very good

16
Q

ICF components can be expressed in both positive + negative terms

A

be aware of the langauge we present

17
Q

ICF- which is a negative/positive term for health condition
-function
-disability

A

-function = positive
-disability = negative

18
Q

ICF- which is a negative/positive term for body functions + structures
-impariment
-functional + structural integrity

A

-impairment = negative
-functional + structural integrity = positive

19
Q

ICF- which is a negative/positive term for activities
-activities participation
-activity limitation, participation restriction

A

-activities participation = positive
-activity limitation, participation restriction = negative

20
Q

nonverbal communication is ____% of communication

21
Q

teach-back method

22
Q

informed consent

23
Q

SOAP

A

S- subjective
O- objective
A- assessment
P- plane

24
SOAP- subjective
patient perception of problem -how they feel -self-reported -signs + symptoms (S/S)
25
SOAP- objective
data measured during encounter -labs/tests/imaging
26
SOAP- assessment
analysis of impairments, limitations, + restrictions based on "S" + "O"
27
SOAP- plan
future interventions based on "A"
28
what information is found in SUBJECTIVE of SOAP
-demographic info -chief complaint (patient perspective) -prior/current level of function -prior medical history/current medications -available resources (support, level of independence, etc.) -diagnostic testing -review body systems
29
what information is found in OBBJECTIVE of SOAP
tests/measures -based on review of body systems -gait/transfers -balance -strength -ROM
30
what information is found in ASSESSMENT of SOAP
diagnosis/prognosis -the WHY -link impairments to activity/participation limitation -prognosis (prediction of level of improvement in activities/participation)
31
prognosis
prediction of level of improvement in activities/participation
32
what information is found in PLAN of SOAP
-anticipated goals -expected outcomes -interventions
33
SIRP
version of SOAP used for follow-up appointments
34
SIRP
S- status I- intervention R- response P- plan
