Q

What are the different forms of energy?

A

Heat: Particles in any material will vibrate more and more as their heat energy increases

Sound: Waves of energy that travel from place to place through materials. The particles of the material vibrate as the energy moves through the material.

Light: Energy that comes from any light source, i.e. the Sun, a lamp. It can travel through empty space.

Kinetic: The energy an object has when moving.

Potential: The energy stored in an object.

Nuclear:’The energy stored in the nucleus of an atom.

Chemical: The energy stored in the bonds between molecules.

Electrical:’The energy of certain particles when moving through electrical wires.

Q

What are the renewable and non renewable energy sources?

A

Renewable: an energy source that is infinite- it will never run out. E.g wind, solar, hydroelectric, biomass, wave, tidal, geothermal,

Non renewable: an energy source that is finite- it will run out e.g. fossil fuels and nuclear fission

Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the future energy needs on earth?

A

Wind: advantage: it’s clean disadvantage:only generates power when wind is blowing
Solar: lower electricity bills, high upfront cost
Hydroelectric: low operating cost, limited acssesibility
Biomass: waste reduction, air pollution
Wave:limitless resource,EMF
Tidal: tides are easily predicted, cost is very high
Geothermal:low greenhouse gas emissions, high initial cost
Fossil fuels: high energy output , pollution
Nuclear fission: reliable, high cost
