Question 1

How to lay supply line?

Answer 1

1. Spot tailboard on hydrant
2. Wait, watch, and listen for FF to say go.
3. Lay line along the curb the hydrant is on.
4. Crossover at the fire if necessary
5. Max speed is 15 mph
6. Slow to 3-5 mph on fireground

Question 2

How do you spot the apparatus?

Answer 2

1. Place deck gun in a position to protect exposures.
2. Spot 30 ft away from the structure or height of structure, which ever is greater.
3. Leave room for ladder to get a good spot
4. Consider fire attack location if no exposures.
5. Provide captain with 3 views of structure if no exposure and doesn’t hinder the ladder getting a good spot or fire attack
6. Don’t park the Nader power lines
7. Don’t park over manhole covers on hazmat incidents

What is the cab procedure for putting the truck in pump?

Answer 3

1. Set parking brake
2. Place transmission into neutral
3. Shift transfer from road into pump
4. Place transmission in drive
   - listen for the pump to engage
   - look for pump engaged and okay pump light
   - look for speedometer to read 10-15 mph
   - check to see throttle is disengaged
5. Quickly check gauges on dash
   - oil pressure
   - water temp
   - volt meter
   - air pressure
6. Double check parking brake
7. don safety vest
8. Watch for traffic before you open door
9. Close door after exiting

How do you pump on tank water?

Answer 4

1. Insure hose clamp is on
2. Consider placing wheel chocks
3. Check gauges on panel ( oil pressure, water temp)
4. check okay to pump light is on
5. Open tank to pump valve
6. Calculate engine pressure for first handline
7. Check to make sure hose is cleared from bed
8. Slowly open the discharge gate
9. Increase the throttle to calculated pressure

How do you change over to hydrant water?

Answer 5

1. Make pullbacks
2. Break supply line
3. Connect supply line to intake
4. Open air bleeder
5. Open hose clamp
6. Close air bleeder valve after all air is gone from line
7. Open the intake valve while throttling down to maintain engine pressure
8. Partially open tank fill valve to refill tank.

Question 6

How do you set the relief valve?

Answer 6

1. Turn relief valve on
2. Turn valve handle slowly counter-clockwise
3. Watch for light and listen for the valve to open
4. Stop turning the valve handle as soon as the valve opens
5. Turn the valve handle clockwise one turn and stop
6. Valve should now be closed. If not turn 1/4 turn more in the clockwise direction or until light goes out and valve closes.
7. Valve is set, and doesn’t require adjustment unless engine pressure is changed.

How to pump a line that as a pressure less then the engine pressure?

Answer 7

1. Slowly open new discharge gate partially
2. Allow the line to fill with water
3. Wait for water to begin flowing from the nozzle
4. Use the throttle to maintain correct engine pressure
5. Gated down the new line to its calculated discharge pressure

Question 8

How do you pump a line with greater pressure then the engine pressure?

Answer 8

1. Slowly open the new discharge gate fully
2. Allow line to fill with water
3. Wait for water to begin to flow from both lines
4. Increase the relief valve setting by turning clockwise
5. Use throttle to obtain the new engine pressure
6. While throttling up gate old lines down to their calculated pressure. 7. Reset the pressure relief valve to new engine pressure

Question 9

What is the procedure to take the truck out of pump?

Answer 9

1. Reduce the throttle to ideal
2. Close discharge gates
3. Bleed pressure from discharge through bleeder valves or nozzle
4. Open the tank fill to top of water
5. Check gauges on pump panel
6. Close intake valve once tank is full
7. Shut hydrant down
8. Bleed pressure from supply line
9. Take truck out of pump
   - place transmission in neutral
   - wait 3-5 sec for gear to stop spinning while checking dash gauges
   - shift transfer from pump to road
10. Secure all hose and equipment used. Walk around truck checking under the truck, compartment doors, running boards, top of truck, for bottles, loose equipment, open doors, hose.
