Sections of the ENGINE
Cold, Hot, Power turbine, and Accessory
Cold section module is designed
Clean, Direct, and compress the air
Hot Section
Mixes fuel and air for combustion
Hot section consists of the
Combustion liner, stage 1 nozzle, stage 1 and stage 2 rotors and a gas generator turbine static with stage 2 nozzle segments
Power Turbine purpose
Extracts energy from hot expanding gases and converts it into mechanical energy
Where does the Ng sensor located
Power turbine section
Where is the TQ sensor located
Power Turbine section
Rotates the compressor, through the accessory section module, until the engine compressor reaches a speed that permits it to be self sustaining (52% NG)
Air Turbine Starter (ATS)
What is used to provide air in the from the IPAS to the air turbine starter
Pressure Regulator and Shutoff Valve
(PRSOV)
CHMU
Provides fuel pumping, metering, flow computation, pressurization and shutoff.
Provides Ng control, compressor variable static vane actuation, anti-icing and start bleed valve actuation
Power available spindle
Provides input from POWER LEVERS for shutoff, start, ground idle and max cont Ng
Load Demand Spindle (LDS)
Provides input an input from collective control for different load demands
Electronic Digital Electronic Control unit
Controls the engine and transmits operational info to the crew. Powered by the engine alternator
Windings coming off the Alternator
Power to EDECU
Igniters
Ng indications
How to remove EDECU Authority
By positioning the power levers to lockout position
CHMU provides
Ng overspeed protection in the event the gas generator exceeds 108-112% Ng
What is designed to reduce fuel flow and limit rate of torque increase to approx. 12% per second when transient engine torque exceeds 100 during an uncompensated maneuver.
Maximum Torque rate Attenuator
This circuit could produce an increase in Nr if rapid collective is applied without a continue demand being placed on the rotor system from a torque setting < 12% TQ DE
Transient Droop Improvement
ENG TGT Limiter
DE 879+/- 5 C
SE 903 +/- 5 C
3 Sources may provide air for engine starts
APU
Opposite engine bleed air
Acft ground power unit (AGPU)
Fuel flow to the engine will be auto shut off if TGT Exceeds____C
900 C
Np meets or exceeds 118.1% 2 freq sensing circuits output a signal to the overspeed system which causes the Overspeed drain Valve to shut off fuel flow to the engine
No Overspeed Protection System
