Blown Tire on Takeoff
Abort or Takeoff?
Airspeed? Distance down runway?
LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL *1. Rudder - AS REQUIRED TO COUNTER SWERVE If flyaway airspeed available *2. Go-Around If flyaway airspeed not available *3. Abort
Modified abort…
ABORT:
Throttle - IDLE
Speed brakes - EXTEND
BLOWN TIRE SUSPECTED therefore ANTI-SKID Switch - OFF
Hook - DOWN (if required)
Release Brakes prior to crossing arresting gear
Runaway Rudder Trim
TRIM FAILURE
RUDDER TRIM HARDOVER
1. Check rudder trim to confirm full trim
2. Trim until uncommanded trim is removed
if trim is not responding or too slow:
3. CONTR AUG switch - RESET AND RELEASE (rudder goes to neutral)
4. Trim as desired
Runaway Stabilator Trim
TRIM FAILURE
Rudder trim hardover
abrupt, small lateral acceleration which occurs with a C AUG caution light. Possible occurrence after a electrical generator reset.
CONTR AUG’s four functions
Yaw damping
Turn coordination (WoW <217KIAS)
Speed Brake to Stabilator Interconnect (SBI)
Rudder trim
C AUG caution light
C Aug Bit Test is being continuously performed automatically. Light triggered by failed bit test
T/F: THE F405-RR-401 ENGINE INSTALLED DEVELOPS 5,527 POUNDS OF THRUST AT STANDARD SEA-LEVEL CONDITIONS.
TRUE
ENGINE FAILURE DURING CATAPULT LAUNCH.
*1. EJECT
BREAK / LANDING PATTERN PROCEDURES WHEN BASH MODERATE
SMOKE/FUMES IN COCKPIT
If unable to clear smoke or unable to see.
Flaps fail to retract
OR POSSIBLE UNCOMMANDED ROLL/YAW
*1. Flaps/Slats - Return to previous setting.
WARNING: Aircraft exhibits no natural stall warning during approach to stall. Stall warning rudder pedal shakers come on at 21.5 units AOA, closely followed by the stall at 23 to 25 units.
Flaps fail to extend
Recommend straight in approach with touchdown not greater than 600 fpm.
Runaway Aileron Trim/Aileron trim failure
Trim Failure
Possible Uncommanded Roll/Yaw
Speed brake fails to retract
Controllability check?
Play with C AUG? SBI off?
Speed brakes start to blow back at an airspeed of 380 KIAS and extend fully if the airspeed decreases to 340 KIAS.
Split Flaps
Uncommanded Roll/Yaw
Pitot Static Malfunctions
Main/nose gear unsafe down
FAIL TO RETRACT 1. Airspeed below 200 KIAS 2. Ensure EMER GEAR handle fully stowed if light remains on 3. LDG GEAR handle - DOWN, DO NOT CYCLE if any gear indicates unsafe: 5. Execute Landing Gear Unsafe/Fail to Extend procedures
LANDING GEAR UNSAFE/FAIL TO EXTEND
1. Airspeed below 200 KIAS
2. LT/TONE TEST switch - LIGHT TEST
3. Obtain visual check if available
If landing gear cannot be confirmed down and locked and no obvious damage
5. Landing gear - CYCLE
If gear still unsafe
6. LDG GEAR handle - DOWN
7. EMER GEAR handle - ROTATE CLOCKWISE AND PULL
8. If necessary, perform positive-g, negative-g, and yawing maneuvers to obtain a down and locked indication.
9. EMER GEAR handle - Restow
If landing gear remain unsafe:
11. Refer to Landing Gear Malfunction Landing Guide.
