What’s the definition of epoc?
The extra oxygen that must be consumed following exercise in order to return the body to its pre exercise state
How does epoc work?
1) resting heart rate
2) exercise commences and the body works anaerobically because of insufficient o2 and fats are too slow break down. Both anaerobic systems are used
3) when sufficient o2 becomes available the body works aerobically and enters the stead state
4) when exercise stops, o2 intake remains high so the body returns to its pre-exercise state
5) recovery can only take place in presence of oxygen
What happens in stage 1 of epoc?
What happens in stage 2 of epoc?
How can lactic acid be removed?
What other factors are there to consider?
Glycogen replenishment
Increased activity in hormones
Increase in body temp
What does epoc stand for?
Excess post-exercise oxygen consumption
