They are located:
Fwd: SOF , inboard of LES hatch
Aft: EES, aft & outboard of B2 switchboard.
Operation SOP is attached to the devices.
Each one has three (3) separate frequencies and three (3)
modes of operation:
a. T elephone: Voice
b. T elegraph: Morse code
c. Pinger: Ping noise.
The switches’ failsafe is ON. If flooding, or damage is
present, they will activate. Typically isolated. Guides
LR5 (rescue vessel) to Upper Escape T ower Hatch.
They’re located on opposing sides of 72-76 Bulkhead:
Fwd: Stbd, outboard of LES hatch
Aft: Portside, outboard of tunnel door
Located in each GXL. COB takes ownership.

CDAU (Carbon Dioxide Absorption Unit) is used to keep
CO2 2 - 2.5%. They house the sofnolime canisters.
They are located:
a. Fwd of aft ACU’s (holds 5 Sofnalime canisters each)
b. Aft of fwd ACU (fwd of stores room), (holds 10
Sofnalime canisters)
There are 550 canisters both fwd and aft.
Only fwd. Powered by LP air. Isolated, as it will
switch on its maintenance on ACU. Deposits air
into LAS & DSS.
CCSM has the following escape stores on board:
● Oxygen Candles (MPOG)
● Sofnalime CO2 Canisters
● MPOG Igniter Lockers
● Atmosphere Monitoring
equipment
● Escape Rations
● Absolute Pressure gauges
● SEEPIRB
● PLB’s
● Escape Pyrotechnics stores
Oxygen Candles, or MPOG (multi-purpose oxygen
generator), are rectangular canisters, opened via a
specialised tool. Extreme precaution - as they reach
500℃. Special metal mesh holders located in TS, AMS1 &
MR. Before use, inspect the Serial number, & white/purple
seal-indicator. There are 96 fwd & aft. Used if oxygen
reaches 18% or below. Use 4 MPOGs simultaneously.

Places to bang are usually directly attached to the hull; or
provide structural integrity to the hull.
● Shaft
● Hatches and torpedo rear doors (except ET)
● Deep T frame
Don’t bang on SSE’s; Escape T ower hatch; or tunnel door.
Generally: Escape related items.
2x six (6) man liferaft & Sea Pack are both located
(together) in TES.
Sea pack includes a list of Immediate &
subsequent actions for abandoning.
Once a sofnolime canister turns purple; remove the unit
and replace them with equal amounts. ACAU will not work
without a proper amount.
