• slight respiratory depression
• minimal effects on hepatic and renal systems
• minimal effects on arterial blood pressure
• cerebral perfusion pressure is better maintained compared to propofol or thipental

Precautions of Etomidate

• myoclonus (twitching), excitement and retching if used alone without premedication
• suppresses adrenocortical functions up to 3-6 hours in dogs after a single IV injection
• do not use in long term steroid use patients or with hypoadrenocorticism
• not to be used as a CRI due to reasons above
