The European Citizen΄s Initiative is a unique way for citizens to help shape the EU by calling on the European Commission to propose new laws. Following submission of a European Citizen΄s Initiative petition, the European Commission: 1. Is obliged to meet with representatives within 1 month and is obliged to take action (i.e. draft legislative proposal) in response to the citizen΄s initiative within 6 months. 2. Is obliged to meet with representatives within 1 month and has the option to take action (i.e. draft legislative proposal) in response to the citizen΄s initiative within 6 months. 3.
