- Balance - has to do with visual stability and reconciliation of opposing forces. Its achieved either symmetrically or asymmetrically.
- Emphasis - uses contrast, color, shape or texture to draw attention to the intended element.
- Proportion - Attained when a desirable relationship is found between the elements of size, color, quantity, or degree.
- Rhythm - movement which is achieved when using repetition, gradation and alternation. The repetitions can be made subtly or more boldly.
- Harmony -the root principle that summarizes all other principles of design. Achieves overall unity with all the elements for a consistent composition.
