A
  • The white paper is read aloud to both houses
  • Speaker makes sure there is no interruptions
  • No questions
  • Gives people time to think about the bill

What happens in the Committee stage ?

A
  • Specialist within the area of law or business are invited to join a committee ( can make changes to the bill )
  • Committee will range from 15 to 57
  • Committee will vote ( odd number ensures of majority decision )

A
  • Any amendments ( changes ) to the bill are drafted into a report
  • Committees changes are reviewed

  • Bill will be unlikely to fail at this late stage

How does royal assent take place ?

A

Monarch reads the bill - signs and stamps it with the royal coat of arms

  • Bill then sent back the the proposed house and added to the acts of parliament website
  • Commencement date then added allowing a time period for the bill to become advertised
