How to find percentage yield
Actual moles of product divided by theoretical max number of moles of product
X 100
Why don’t we achieve 100% yield?
1) If the reaction is reversible then not all the reactants convert to product especially if the reaction is very slow so does not reach equilibrium quickly
2) There may be side reactions that produce by products. This means lower yield of desired product
3) Product may be lost through transferring between vessels and through purification steps e.g filtering
How to work out atom economy
Mr of desired product divided by sum of Mr of all products
