saying one thing is like or simillar to another e.g. tears fell like rain
Personifiacation
When something non-human is given human characteristics e.g the wind screamed
Hyperbole
When something is exaggerated e.g. I could of died ( due to embarrassment )
Idiom
A phrase whose meaning isn’t obvious at first or denoted by the words used e.g. ‘pull your socks up’ means do better
Euphemism
A mild or indirect way of talking about something embarassing, unpleasant or offensive e.g. ‘passed away’ to describe someone’s death
Dyphemism
A blunt, harsh way of talking about something positive or neutral e.g. worm food to describe someone’s death
