Nominal data
Qualitative, no ranking or order
Ordinal data
Sequence, irregular gaps between levels
Interval data
Even steps between gaps, zero does not mean zero
Ratio data
Even steps between gaps, zero means zero
Standard deviation
Dispersion of scores from the mean, higher the standard deviation the more variation of data
Confidence intervals
2x SD from the mean, if two confidence intervals do not overlap means statistical significance
P-value
Statistical significance, if p-value is below 0.05 data is statistically significant and difference in values is not due to chance
R-value
Measure of the linear relationship between two variables, +1 = positive, 0 = no relationship, -0 = negative
Type 1 error
False positive
Type 2 error
False negative
Parametric data
Non-parametric data
CNS
Composed of the brain and spinal cord, responsible for sending and recieving messages from the brain to the PNS.
PNS
Responsible for sending and recieving messages from senses and moving them to muscles and glands
Somatic nervous system: skeletal (voluntary)
Autonomic nervous system: glands and organs (involuntary)
Autonomic nervous system
Sympathetic: activates the body when alertness is required
Parasympathetic: maintains homeostasis
