Which areas have true detection and protection?

Which areas have detection, OVHT, or automatic fire funciotns?

Answer 1

• The Engines, APU, and Lower Cargo have true fire detection, cockpit indications, and protection (with controls and designated fire bottles.)
• The MWW area has OVHT detection, the crapsman has automatic suppression.

What is unique about the WW OVHT detection system?

Answer 2

• Does not auto test.

- APU, ENG, and Cargo Systems Automatically test with initial power application, and then continuously thereafter.

What does a SYS FAIL light indication on the Fire Protection Panel?

Answer 3

• One of the monitored systems has failed, and you should check your EICAS Msg for details.
• P-RESET allows indication if the other systems should fail.

When will the ENG FIRE system detect a fire?

• Both Loops have to detect a fire. If one detects a fire, the system is checked. If there is a FAULT, then single loop operations commence.

How would the system function in order to extinguish an ENG fire?

• System detection unlocks ENG FIRE Switch.
• Pulling the ENG FIRE Switch isolates the engine (Fuel, HYD, Bleed, IDG Disconnected / SOVs close)
• Arms Bottles, and silences the bell.
• Rotating the ENG FIRE Switch discharges one bottle; rotate the other way to discharge the other bottle.
• EICAS Msg and ENG BTL DISCH Lights illuminate.
• FIRE Indication goes away only if fire goes out.

How is an ENG OVHT Indicated?

• Sperate Loops would trigger the following Indications:
• Beeper
• M CAUT
• ENG OVHT Light
• EICAS
• Remains as long as the OVHT Condition.

How does the APU Fire system work?

• Dual Loop system such that either loop can indicate.
• One Bottle.
• Indications in the Flight Deck and on the Nose Gear.
• Indication will automatically shut the APU Down (some also discharge bottle).

• Bell
• APU FIRE Switch.
• FIRE Discreet Light.

• (On GRND) Nose Horn and Light

How does the APU system function following a detection?

• APU Automatically Shuts Down
• Unlocks the FIRE Switch
• Pulling the Switch Isolates the APU (Fuel, Bleed SOVs close and the GEN field is tripped off) and arms the BTL.
• Rotating the Switch in either direction discharges BTL.
• EICAS and APU BTL lights indicate blown load.

What are the MGWW Fire Proteciton system details?

• Single Loop System
• No Protection; swing the gear.
• Bell, M WARN, WHL WELL Light, EICAS, FIRE Discreet.

Describe the Cargo Fire System

• Dual Photo Sensitive Loops / Smoke Detectors
• Autotest at initial power, and if one detects smoke and the other does not. Appropriate Indication follows.
• Master Warning, BELL, FWD/AFT Cargo Fire Warning Light Illuminates.
• Pushing FWD Fire Warning Light arms extinguishers, configures valves to direct protection, packs go to high flow, turns off NGS, and turns off RECIRC Fans.
• AFT Fire - same ^^ except. pack high flow is inhibited
• Pushing DISCH Switchlight immediately discharges First Btl into armed compartment. The Second BTL will discharge 30 minutes later to provide 195 minutes of protection.
• Once BTL is discharged, cannot arm different area.

• Fight FIRE by starving it of air.
