4 Firearm Safety Rules
- Handle all firearms as if they were loaded

The slide strips a round from the magazine, forcing the round into the chamber and seating it.
The slide continues forward causing the barrel to lock up into the slide.

Firing Pin Safety
Blocks firing pin channel
= impossible to ignite chambered cartridge
- only pushed up when trigger is pulled, release trigger = reactivate safety
Drop Safety
Prevents unintentional firing as a result of hard impact
Pistol Safety Check
- No Magazine / Remove it
- Lock slide to rear
- Inspect physically and visually the chamber and magazine well
- After cleared send slide fwd
Types of Loads / Reloads
- Administrative Load
- Emergency Re-load
- Speed Re-load

Speed Reload
- Index new magazine, THEN release current magazine
Purpose: as little time without a magazine in pistol as possible
Emergency Reload
The “Oh shit I’m out” reload
- Get the empty mag out ASAP, THEN index a new mag
Tactical Reload
The “Hmm I have shot some rounds and have some time and opportunity now to reload”
- the CLAW
- Index, then press mag catch, then switch-a-roo & retain magazine
- Remember to bump up

At start of shift, insert new magazine and chamber 1 round
