Primary flight controls
elevator, rudder, aileron
Spoilers functions
Roll spoiler
speed brakes
ground spoilers
Secondary flight controls
Flaps, spoilers, horizontal stab, aileron and rudder trim
FCE? how many?
what does it do?
Flight control electrical system (FCE)
2
FCE 1 - pitch trim backup and flaps
FCE 2 - normal pitch trim and spoilers
Flap position degrees and airspeed limits
Flap 1 - 8° 180kts
Flap 2 - 26° 170kts
Flap 3 -26° 170kts
Flap Full - 35° 160kts
What are purpose of spoilers
1 - Ground spoiler
2 - Roll spoiler - flaps not at 0° and deflection of control horn 30°
3 - Speed brake - only with flaps at 0° (up)
Requirement for ground spoilers to deploy
1 - Aircraft on the ground
2 - Thrust levers -idle-
3 - Ground spoilers -armed-
35° in 1.2 seconds
Do speed brakes work with flaps deployed?
No
will not extend with flaps beyond 0°
if they are out when you command flaps beyond 0° the spoilers will stow
What causes speed speed brakes retract?
airspeed below 110 kts
or advancing thrust levers with speed brakes out
Describe the flap system
Four positions
Four panels
trailing edge fowler flaps
mechanically actuated with jackscrews
powered by DC electric motor
FCE (flight control electronics) operates the PDU (power delivery unit) driving 6 flexible shafts to operate the flap actuators
Describe spring loaded rudder booster system (SLRB)
provides force assistance to the pilot in the rudder control system incase of thrust asymmetry.
commanded by FADEC during asymmetric thrust
What system other than the YD prevents Dutch roll?
Ventral rudder control (VRC)
acts as a transparent yaw damper
starts at 60 kts ends at YD engagement (enters streamlining mode)
and begins again with YD turned off
Roll/Yaw runaway protection
3 second timer
the system stops the actuator from moving after 3 seconds
For both roll trim and rudder trim
Where is roll trim tab located?
on left wingtip
How to detect a roll/rudder trim failure?
Switch no longer moves the trim tab.
no CAS message
Describe the elevator system
pair of elevator surfaces
-25° (pitch up) to +15° (pitch down)
cables connecting to torque tubes
elevator tab mechanism (automatic deflection when elevator surface moves)
What happens when YD off
Yaw damper turns on
Ventral rudder turns on
