definition: the upwards force a fluid exerts on an object. if this force is strong enough it can oppose gravity. That happens when the density of the object is lesser than the fluid
Archimedes’ Principle: the buoyant force is equal to the weight of the water which is displaced. if the object has a low density then it will float
example: a hot air balloon, a boat on water, an ice berg

- the carbonation changes the OAD when the bubbles form on the bottom of the craisons as they sit at the bottom of the glass
- when the OAD is low enough for them to float, they rise, then turn upside down, popping the bubbles and causing them to sink
- then the OAD is higher so they sink and the process repeats
