High/Low Context Cultures
- high-context cultures spend a lot of time getting to know one another before engaging in any important transactions.
Messages are very implicit, and receiver has to read between the lines.
Direct/Indirect
This usually goes hand in hand with high/low context cultures.
- Direct communication is necessary if people don’t know each other well.
Elaborate/Exacting/Succinct
Elaborating style:
- most popular in high- context cultures with moderate degree of uncertainty avoidance.
Exacting style:
- focuses on precision and use of right amount of words to convey message; more common in low-context, low-uncertainty-avoidance cultures.
Succinct style:
- more common in high-context cultures with considerable uncertainty avoidance where people say few words and allow understatements, pauses, and silence to convey meaning.
Contextual/Personal
Personal Countries (such as DK): - Use style and introduction that reduces barriers between the different parties.
Contextual countries:
- It would be embarrassing to use inappropriate language towards people with higher status.

- Distance and touching when talking (high vs low context cultures)
- Cultural Haptics: Handshake? Depends on length/strength og relationship.
