Formula
An equation linking sets of physical variables. Plural: formulae.
Expression
A mathematical form expressed symbolically.
Examples: 7+3; a^2+b^2
Substitution
In Algebra “Substitution” means putting numbers where the letters are.
Example: If x=5, then what is x + ^10/_x ?
Put “5” where “x” is: 5 + ^10/_5 = 7
Variable
In algebra, a variable is a symbol that stands for an unknown quantity
Subject
The subject of a formula is the variable that is being worked out.
For example,
A=bh
(area = base x height)
The subject of the formula is A
