What are the components in a fuel system?
Service tank Fuel lift pump Change over cock valve Filters Strainers Fuel injection pump Injectors
What does a fuel lift pump do?
Supplies fuel at low pressure to the fuel injection pump.
What does the fuel injection pump do?
Delivers high pressure fuel, in a measured amount, to the correct injector and the correct time.
Explain spill return.
The injectors will inject high pressure, atomised fuel into the cyclinder. They will also send a small amount of the fuel back into the injection pump suction, this cools and lubricates the working parts of the injector.
