Group of diseases causing damage to the optic nerves due to raised intra-ocular pressure

Classically associated with:

• Optic disc cupping
• Visual field loss

Types:

• Primary open angle = most common
• Acute angle closure = opthalmic emergency
• Secondary glaucoma = due to othr condition e.g. uveitis
• Congenital glaucoma = due to abnormality of the eye from birth
