- Getting to know each other, strengths / weaknesses, will people fit in
- Develop social relationships
- Reliant on the coach to bring the group together

What is the storming section of the tuckman’s model ?
- Infighting and conflict as people establish roles / positions
- Confrontation with leaders
What is the Norming section of the tuckman’s model ?
- Cooperation, conflicts are resolved
- The team begins to unify and cooperate focusing on achieving goals
- Standards / norms are accepted and the cohesion of the team develops
- Motivation and success rises
What is the performing section of the tuckman’s model ?
- Common goals, team supports each other and understand their roles
- motivation and enjoyment is high
- Respect for other members and leaders is high
How long does group dynamics take ?
- Time taken in each stage changes - settled teams accept new players quickly while representative teams take longer to settle
- Wether this process occurs at all is down to the cohesion of the group e.g. the England football team doesn’t seem to bind so underperforms
