What is HMS and what does it provide?
Helmet Mounted Sight.
Provides continuous LOS information for:
- Sensor pointing
- Weapons aiming
What are the HMS Subsystems?
AAIH
Apache Aviator Integrated Helmet
Primary purpose is to establish electronic LOS relative to the Armament Datum Line (ADL).
-Once established, continuous head position is provided to MP.
-Provides audio headset for comms, not part of IHADSS, head protection, sensor pointing, weapons aiming, and comms.
- HDU provides NVS imagery for night flight.
ISDU
Integrated Sight Display Unit
Main electronics controller for HMD/HMS
Primary interface for the IHADSS to/from aircraft and primary power interface from the aircraft
Stores mapping data (MCD) both stations, mounted in EFAB, shared by both crew members. IBRU boresight data stored in ISDU, verified by MP on every power up.
IBRU
Improvised Boresight Reticle Unit
Electro-optical device that provides a reference for the crewmember to align the IHADSS to Armament Datum Line (ADL)
Surveyed into position and rigidly mounted on top of the center section of the crewmember instrument panel
SDC
Signal Data Converter
Converts the “H Field” signal to a digital signal and sends it to the ISDU
IBRU provides the aircrew a ______ acquisition window measuring at ____ in diameter at ____ from the face of the IBRU and at least ____ in diameter at ___ from thee face of the IBRU.
5 degree
1.5 inches
20 inches
3 inches
40 inches
What will the color of the three concentric circles and “cross hairs” to the naked eye will be?
Yellow white, and through the HDU combiner lens will be reddish orange.
When IHADSS button is selected, what selectins are availabe with boresight correctors?
BRU Crew station button L1
BRU Button R1
Data entry fields R4-R6
Status window created to confirm select
Input limits
Last Rev Date
What knob adjust IBRU brightness?
PRI INT LT knob
What is HMD and what does it provide?
Helmet Mounted Display.
What are the subsytems of HMD?
-Where are the IHADSS components located primarily?
-Are they required for crewmember interaction?
-Components are primarily located in the crew stations and the Extended Forward Avionics Bays (EFABS).
- No, but are an integral part of the system.
What are Mission Processors and what do they provide?
-MPs are the bus controllers for the weapons and sight subsystems.
-They provide symbol generation for the appropriate symbology with crewmembers HDU.
(Each crew member retains individual control of brightness/contrast)
Spindle or cylinder on which a wire is wound
Bobbin.
Typically found in electronic equipment for applications such as coil.
Coil of wire carrying a current has important magnetic properties.
IMRU
Improved Magnetic Receiver Unit.
AAIH uses an IMRU with bobbins to detect helmet position.
Bobbins on left of AAIH, electronics on the right.
MTU
Magnetic Transmitter Unit.
Provides; Maximum coverage for head position, transmits three different dimensional axis (X,Y, and Z), both E (RF) and H (magnetic) field.
Only one axis transmitting for both crew stations at a time. EM fields flood the crew station.
Electronics Module
Stores part number, serial number, and operational time
Where are the MTU’s mounted in each crew station?
Over their left shoulder.
Mounts should not be removed. No provisions for realigning at the unit level.
Motion Box
Theoretical rectangular box that represents the available range of motion at which the IMRU detects RF and EM fields transmitted by the MTU
What message will you get if the IMRU can detect the EM signals transmitted by the MTU
IHADSS LOS Invalid message being displayed on the crew members High Action Display (HAD)
Displayed when AIH is sensed near or at the limit of the motion box
Motion Box Message
-Selected sensor still driven
IHADSS requires boresighting?
IHADSS Boresight required
SPS
Sea Position Sensor
Indentifies the seat height position within the mapped crew station
Has two Magnetic Correction Data (MCD)’s for each; Lower and Upper Seat position
ISDU decides which MCD to use based on SPS feedback
