Mechanism of action of Epinephrine

A

Mimics the sympathetic (fight-or-flight) response
Causes the blood vessels to constrict
Reverses vasodilation and hypotension
Increases cardiac contractility and relieves bronchospasm
Rapidly reverses the effects of anaphylaxis

Snake bite, what to do

A

Calm pt
Supine
Document time of bite
Clean bite area with water or mild antiseptic DO NOT APPLY ICE
If bit on limb and transport is more than 2 hrs than apply pressure immobilization and place limb below heart
Be wear of analyphilaxis
Do not give anythin by mouth and be alert for vomiting
Treat any adverse symptoms like shock
If snake has been killed, bring it, notify hosibtal and discribe snake
TRANSPORT!

Sting, what to do

A

If a stinger is present, scrape the skin with the edge of a sharp, stiff object such as a credit card. Do not use tweezers or forceps.
Wash the area with soap or antiseptic.
Remove any jewelry from the area.
Position the injection site below the heart.
Apply ice or cold packs.

Pathophysiology of anaphylaxis

A

WBCs and mast cells trigger histamine, which dilates blood vessels
Loss of circulatory system function, can’t distribute O2, and causes swelling
Goes into shock
