Volatile- content is lost when power is disconnected. Used to store programs and data when currently in use
ROM
Non volatile- content is retained when the power is disconnected. Used to store the bootup instructions.
Magnetic storage
Uses magnets to record data on magnetic rotating plates
I.e HDD
Optical storage
Uses a beam of light and lens to record data onto a disk. Data is stored in pits and lands on the surface of the disk
I.e CD
Flash storage
Uses positive and negative charges to record data onto cells that are made of up transistors.
