When a program is completed it is put on CD and sent to the customer with an installation routine to install on the users computer. Explain what the installation routine does (6 marks Jan 09)

• the program is copied to a designated folder on the target computer
• any necessary data files are copied
• any necessary library files are copied and registered
• shortcut icons are created to run the program
• configuration is saved to a file
• programs may need extracting from a compressed file
