Instinctive behavior ( innate)
Instictive behaviour Examples:
Fixed action patterns
‘hard wired’ a series or sequences of acts that occur behaviorally in animals.
Learned behaviour
one that an organism develops as a result of experience.
Types of learning
Habituation
Loss of a response to a stimulus after repeated exposure ( get used to something)
Imprinting
Learning that is irreversible and limited to a sensitive time period in an animals life. Often results in a strong bond between offspring and parents
Association
Behavioral changes resulting from a link between a behavior and a reward or punishment- trial and error learning
Classical conditioning is a form example is Pavlov’s experiment on the dog
Imitation
Learning by observing and mimicking others known as parental or social teaching
Problem Solving
Inventive behavior that arises in response to a new situation
Classical conditioning
the animal learns to associate a previously unpaired stimuli - bell means come here
Operant conditioning
The animal learns a novel response or action to get a reward or avoid a punishment
Cultural behaviour
the adoption of a particular behaviour across groups
