Magnetic Dip is one of the major causes of a compasses errors
Compass errors continue during banking turns or change the airspeed. causing the heading to be incorrect on the compass. Errors are greatest when banking and turning on north and south headings.
Lag correlates with North headings and Lead correlates with South headings. the error can be generally 30 to 35 degrees in the lower 48 states
Compass turns should be done on shallow banked turns.
the compass functions best during straight and level flight.
