What’s the difference between an Acting and Temporary Duty Manager?
A temporary DM is for situations in which your usual manager is absent for an undefined amount of time or leaves their position without warning.
An acting DM is for situations in which your usual manager is absent for a pre-determined amount of time or cannot make a one-off shift, like if they are going on leave or have called in sick.
As a temporary DM, when should you apply for your own Duty Manager’s Certificate?
Within two working days of becoming temporary DM. You can continue to work as a temporary DM until the result of this application is determined.
How long can you be an acting DM for?
You can be an acting DM for up to three weeks at a time, and a total of 6 weeks in any 12 month time period.

What would you do if you were approached by a customer who advised they had been sexually assaulted on your premises?
- Find them a comfortable and safe space to sit within the premises, away from the offending patron
- Notify security as well as other staff members onsite
- If possible, politely but assertively ask the offending patron to leave, however don’t compromise your own safety in this situation. Ask other staff members to help you if possible, or pass the issue over to security.
What would you do if you thought a customer was being taken advantage of by another customer?
- Aim to separate the two customers in a non-confrontational manner if possible
- Offer both customers water, or the option of food, in case intoxication has become a factor in the issue
- Notify security and other staff members of the issue
- If possible, remove the offending customer from the premises or politely yet assertively ask them to leave.
- Ask the customer being taken advantage of if they are okay, escort to a safe and comfortable space within the premises if they need it.
