Q

What are the physical properties of ionic compounds?

A
  • High melting points - strong electrostatic forces of attraction between the oppositely charged ions in the lattice
  • good conductor of electricity (when molten or in solution) - as ions are free to move and carry charge

Q

What are the physical properties of ionic compounds?

A
  • High melting points - strong electrostatic forces of attraction between the oppositely charged ions in the lattice
  • good conductor of electricity (when molten or in solution) - as ions are free to move and carry charge
  • can’t conduct when solid as ions unable to move in lattice
  • usually soluble in aqueous solution
