Transfer of electrons between non mentals and metals

What happens during this bonding?
A
Non metals and metals react together and the metal atom loses its electron forming a cation and the non metal gains that elecetron forming an anion.

How does the metal or non-metal gain the electron?
A
oppositely charged ions are strongly attracted to each other.
The attraction is called an ionic bond.
