What is a joint?
The part of the body where two or more bones meet, allowing movement.
What is a fibrous joint?
Where the bones are bound by a tough, fibrous tissue.
What is a cartilaginous joint?
Where the bones are joined by cartilage.
What is a synovial joint?
Joints found between bones that move against each other.
What is abduction?
When the body part is moved laterally of the body.
What is abduction?
When the body part is moved towards from the centreline of the body, including movements going past the line.
What is flexion?
When a joint is closed (made smaller).
What is extension?
When a joint is opened (made bigger).
What is circumduction?
When the movement of a hand, limb, or fingers follow and move in a circular pattern.
What is supination?
When the hand rotates to being palm up.
What is pronation?
When the hand rotates to being palm down.
What is dorsiflexion?
When the toes and ball of the foot flex upward.
What is plantarflexion?
When the toes and ball of the foot flex downward.
What is inversion?
When the plantar surface (bottom) of the foot turns medially.
What is eversion?
When the plantar surface of the foot turns laterally.
