Key Escrow
Key Escrow
• What it is: A process where a copy of a cryptographic key (used to encrypt/decrypt data) is stored securely by a trusted third party.
• Purpose: If the original key is lost, the data can still be recovered.
✅ Example:
• You encrypt sensitive company files.
• The encryption key is stored in a secure key escrow system.
• If you forget the key, the company can retrieve it from the escrow to access the files.
Quick way to remember
Key escrow = backup key storage with a trusted party.
