Goodness
The quality of being like God. Putting the needs of others first
Free Will
The god given ability to choose right from wrong freely and without being controlled.
Evil
The absence of good and impulses to seek our own desire at the expense of the good of others which often results in suffering.
Incarnation
Means ‘made flesh’. The belief that God became human in the person of Jesus.
Suffering
The pain or loss that harms human beings. Some suffering is caused by other human beings (often called moral evil) some is not (often called natural evil)
Privation
The absence of something. Catholics believe evil is an absence of good.
Conscience
Human reasoning making moral decisions. The knowledge we have of what is right and wrong that God-given compulsion within all human beings to do what is right and to avoid evil.
Natural Law
The moral laws of right and wrong which are universal and not dependant on human laws. The belief in natural law is the belief that moral law is discoverable by every human and is the same for all human beings in all places at all times.
Omnipotence
God is all powerful.
Revelation
How God makes himself known to us e.g. To Moses in the burning bush.
Stewardship
Catholic duty to care for the environment e.g. by recycling.
Transcendence
God exists outside of time and space.
Creation ex nihlio
The belief that God created the world out of nothing/ Theory created by St Augustine.
Evolution
How species adapt overtime e.g. Monkeys into humans. Theory by Charles Darwin.
Imago Dei
We are made in the image God’s image. Theory by Catherine of Siena

Literally means ‘God breathed’. How God guides us.
