-media texts have underlying, universal structures that shape meaning
BINARY OPPOSITES (YAY MY FAVE) !!!

-resolving the opposition reveals cultural values, beliefs, and ideologies
-Conflict between these opposites drives the story forward and creates interest

10
Q

explain jean baudrillards postmodernism theory

A

-the line between “real” world and world of media have collapsed and it is no longer possible to distinguish between reality/simulation
-media mimics reality but creates an artificial (often ideal/ perfect) version of it that often audiences prefer (simularum/simulacra)
-hyperreality - simulacra become hard to tell from reality
-eg perfect instagram post seems “real”
-eg a terrys chocolate orange is packaged to look like an orange, has segments like an orange, mimics an orange but ultimately is NOT an orange
