Define homeostasis
Maintenance of a relatively stable internal environment
What are the 10 organ systems
Integumentary, circulatory, respiratory, musculo-skeletal, endocrine, nervous, immune, digestive, renal/urinary, reproductive
What is the purpose of homeostasis?
maintain variables within tight range of set point
How is homeostasis maintained?
Negative feedback loops (glucose levels, blood pressure)
What is the difference between negative and positive feedback loops?
Negative = reduce initial stimulus, decreases difference between set point and value Positive = enhance initial stimulus, increases difference between set point and value (ex. birthing)
What is feedforward control?
Initiation of a response in anticipation of stimulus, feedback loops are after stimulus occurs
