A
A chronic inability of the heart to pump blood at a rate that maintains adequate tissue perfusion/systemic metabolic requirements.

What are some causes of heart failure?
A
Infarct, cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, arrhythmia, valve disease, hypertension

What is the process in which hypertension can lead to heart failure?
A
High BP increases cardiac work (heart has to push against more pressure), Left ventricle hypertrophies, LV dilates and fails
