Isometric Contractions
Static contractions
Active tension developed but joint angles remain constant
Concentric Contractions
Muscle shortens as it develops active tension
Muscle develops enough force to overcome applied resistance
Movement and Resistance diff directions
Eccentric Exercises
Muscle lengthens under active tension
Force development by the muscle is less than that of the resistance
Movement and resistance same direction
Passive Exercises
Movement may occur at any given joint w/out muscle contraction
Isokinetic Exercises
Dynamic exercises using concentric and/or muscle contractions
Muscle contractions occur throughout movement
