- Look for an author’s conclusion (the statement they want you to believe)
- Does the author have premises
- If yes then it is probably an argument
- if no then it is probably not an argument
- If yes then it is probably an argument

What is argumentative Writing?
It gives reasons or evidence to establish the truth of a particular claim
EXAMPLE: Tim Hortons gives the best coffee because it gives good variety of options and its cheap
What is a rhetorical Writing
it asserts the author’s opinion but doesn’t offer reasons
EXAMPLE: Tim Hortons is okay, people would rather starbucks over tims
which describes argumentative writing but NOT rhetorical writing ( argumentative has this but rhetorical does not?)
