• Working a a broker, associate broker, or salesperson
• Representing yourself as a broker, associate broker, or salesperson
• Performing any action included in the definition of broker
• Claiming compensation for services provided as a broker, associate broker, or salesperson

Exemptions

No license is required for someone:

• Selling their own property
• under power of attorney from the owner (as long as there is no compensation)
• Licensed as an attorney in Kansas

Qualifications

• File a written application for license with KREC
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Have a high school diploma or its equivalent
• Have a good reputation for honesty, trustworthiness, integrity, and competence
• A salesperson must have a recommendation from the supervising broker that will empale the salesperson
• Fingerprints submitted to a state and national criminal history record check
• Education requirements must be met

Licenses are only issued to individuals

Primary Office

A primary office must be established and a supervising designated to supervise the office any any employed associated salesperson or associate brokers.

The supervising broker must obtain approval for the business or trade name

Nonresident License

A nonresident broker or salesperson may be granted a license if:

• The nonresident is licensed as a broker or salesperson in their state of residence
• Meets all pertinent requirements
• Submits the required certification

Renewal

• Licenses expire on a date determined by the commission every two years
• Applicants for renewal must provide the renewal fee
• Applicants for renewal must satisfy continuing education requirements

Examination

Applicants for an original license must pass an examination covering general and state subject matter for brokers or salespersons. The examination must be passed within 6 months of application of licensure

Continuing Education

Prior to each license renewal, all licensees must complete 12 hours of approved continuing education
