Question 1

First train over the affected portion of line, what must you do? (2)

Answer 1

1. You must specially watch the operation of the track circuits during the passage of the first train over the line that was affected by the possession.
2. you must not allow a second train to pass over the line that was affected unless there is a controlled signal which you have replaced to danger between the first and second trains.

Question 2

A T-COD can only be used if all the following conditions apply (3)

1. Use at a particular location is authorised by the Sectional Appendix.
2. The signalling equipment is working normally at the time the T-COD is to be placed on the line.
3. The work will not affect the correct operation of the track circuit concerned.

Question 3

TCOD- when protection provided, you must (2)

1. check that the track circuit concerned is showing clear.
2. You can then give permission to the COSS, IWA or PC to place the T-COD on the line.

Question 4

When the COSS, IWA or PC tells you that the T-COD has been placed on the line, you must - (3)

Answer 4

1. check that the track circuit is showing occupied
2. Confirm track circuit is showing occupied to the COSS/IWA/PC
3. Grant line blockage

Question 5

COSS confirms ready to give up line blockage, you must - (2)

Answer 5

1. Check track circuit where TCOD had been applied that it is showing clear.
2. If not clear, check with the COSS that the TCOD has been removed or deactivated.

Question 6

If additional protection is to be provided by disconnecting signalling equipment, you must - (3)

Answer 6

1. Agree necessary disconnections with signalling technician when signal protection has been provided.
2. You must tell the COSS when the disconnections have been made.
3. You must arrange for the signalling technician to make the necessary reconnections after the line blockage has been completed or suspended.
