Where is the frontal lobe located?
the largest lobe of the cerebral cortex located at the front of the cerebral hemispheres.
What is the function of the frontal lobe?
higher-order mental processes, regulation and expression of emotions, personality, voluntary movement and the production speech
Where is the primary motor cortex found and its function?
an area of the frontal lobe that initiates voluntary movements by sending motor neural messages to our skeletal muscles
What’s the function of Broca’s area and where it found?
Broca’s area of found in the region in the frontal lobe of the left hemisphere with functions linked to speech production.
Where is the parietal lobe located?
The lobe of the cerebral cortex behind the frontal lobe.
What is the function of the parietal lobe?
Receiving and processing sensory stimuli and spatial awareness.
Where is the Primary somatosensory cortex and what is its function?
the area of the parietal lobe responsible for receiving and processing sensory information from the skin and body
Where is the occipital lobe located?
the rearmost lobe of the cerebral cortex behind the parietal lobe
What is the function of the occipital lobe?
primary function of processing visual stimuli
Where is the primary visual cortex located and what’s its function?
the area of the occipital lobe involved in receiving visual information from the sensory receptors located on the retina of our eyes
Where is the temporal lobe located?
the lower central lobe of the cerebral cortex
What is the function of the temporal lobe?
responsible for auditory perception, as well as being involved in memory, face and object recognition and emotional responses
Where is the primary auditory cortex found and what is its function?
the area of the temporal lobe that is responsible for the perception of sound
Where is the wernicke’s area located and what’s its function?
It is located in the temporal lobe and is involved in the comprehension of speech
What is aphasia?
An impairment in language production or comprehension brought about by neurological damage.
What is Broca’s aphasia?
A damage to Broca’s area of the brain, it is characterised by nonfluent speech. However, by and large, speech perception is not affected, and language comprehension is normal.
What is wernicke’s aphasia?
Damage to the wernicke’s area results in deficits in the comprehension of language.
Unlike a person with Broca’s aphasia, a person with Wernicke’s aphasia often shows a blithe indifference to their disorder and seem unaware of their problems.
What is spatial neglect?
The inability of a person to process and perceive stimuli on one side go the body’s movement.
It is very commonly contralateral to the damaged hemisphere.
It is also common when damage occurs to the right parietal lobe.
