• The employer must ensure that all lifting equipment is fit for purpose.
• That an adequate training regime is in place with robust procedures within the SMS for all lifting operations

1. Regular preventative maintenance
2. Regular examinations by a competant person at least every 12 months
3. If suspected of excessie load, or taken past limits should taken out of service until inspected.

1. All lifting equipment must be tested aftrer installation, modification or repair and within the last 5 years. Maximum interval may be reduced if stated by the manufacturer.
2. Examinations:
   a. If used by people = Every 6 months
   b. Other equipment = Every 12 months

1. SWL
2. If SWL changes with configuration then must be marked clearly.
3. IF SWL changes with radius of operation then indicators must be clearly visible to operator.

• to ensure that existing systems have been checked to an equivalent standard;
• to ensure operators have been trained in their use;
• to ensure maintenance is carried out to the manufactures advice
