• Acts to remove bacteria and certain proteins from the tissues, transports fat from the small intestine and supply mature lymphocytes to the blood.

What are phagocytes and through which process do white blood cells remove microorganism, cell debris, and old/ damaged cells.

• Phagocytosis is the process where WBC remove micro organisms,cell debris and blood cells that are damaged, old or abnormal by engulfing them and literally gobbling them up.

• Lymph nodes- filter out and destroy pathogens.
• Tonsils- form a ring of lymphatic tissues around pharynx. This tissue forms a protective barrier for substances entering the oral and respiratory passages.

• Thymus gland is allocated in the mediastinum above the heart. It consists of two fused loves and is divided into outer part (cortex) mostly composed of immature T- lymphocytes.
• the thymus is most active during the prenatal period and early years of life. It grows until puberty and the gradually shrinks in size as we age.
